My first BMW check engine came on this morning, I'm sure the computer miss-read some air-fuel mixture and spit out a code. Will get it checked out tomorrow by an independent. Car seems to run great. One would think iDrive would provide some useful information but all that is mentioned is that all systems are OK.

Coming from an Audi where check engine lights are a feature, I'm not too worried for now.

How many miles on your car? It may be something as simple as an improperly tightened gas/fuel cap or oil-filler cap that has loosened.

update from mechani

Crankshaft inlet camshaft and crankshaft exhaust camshaft. Dr. recommends oil change and flush. Last oil change was done 10k km ago. Also need a new battery, BMW battery is $250 but he recommends an AMG-Glass Matt battery which holds charge better.
Any thoughts?

If it is a 535 the fuel system is covered for 100,000 miles.

I don't know how the computer would get a fault from the crank shaft?

AMG-Glass battery is for deep cycles like you see on a boat or a rv. If you drive the car frequently no need.

Or motorbikes. My 2009 BMW K1300S has one. AMG is the high performance subdivision of Mercedes Benz. AGM on the other hand, stands for Absorbed Glass Mat.

^^ typo on my part. He's recommending the AGM battery because we do a lot of short distance driving and he claims the battery retains better charge vs. the BMW OEM battery.

What is the difference in cost? I guess if it costs about the same it is a good idea.

How long are our batteries supposed to last, and how long did yours?

So what's the cost of the OEM battery?
