Default Manual Boot Release / Flat Battery

Hi,

My battery is totally flat (05 535d) and I ca't seem to find the manual pull to release the boot to get to the battery. Connecting to the front terminals won't charge still so I suspect I will need to take the battery out and charge it externally or replace it. Any ideas how to get it to release? Doesn't seem to be in the same position as the E39 near the toolkit?

Cheers!

The manual pull release attached to the trunk liner... basically kinda behind the back of the license plate location in the inside ... small green triangular plastic ... do you have folding rear seat?

Have you try to jump start the car first and quickly pop open the trunk?

Hook another car or battery up to the terminals under the hood. Car should power up and release the truck like it did before the battery went 'flat'.

Bop6k - I think that's for the E60? Is there one for the E61?
Had a look behind the rear seats - can't see anything!
Can't seem to see anything behind the license plate (my E39 had one there - not here?)
Tried hooking up a charger - it won't charge :-/

Thanks again!

obviously it wont charge if the battery is dead. plug in a charger or jumper another car (with jumper cables) to the connectors under the hood, then press the trunk unlock button while it is connected. it will not charge your battery, but it will allow you to unlock the trunk, etc.

I will have a look in my hand book when i get home. Like others say you need to connect jump cables from another car to the points under the bonnet and try the tailgate, or the glass lid? You CANNOT charge the car from these points. Make sure the car you are connecting to is not a small car, better with something bigger than yours if possible (engine size wise that is)

Of course you can charge the battery from the points under the hood! That's the whole point of having an easy to access positive terminal, vs. having to go to the battery in the trunk.

Even the manual says so: "Charging battery - Only charge the battery in the vehicle via the terminals in the engine compartment with the engine switched off."
