As you are not allowed to put wider rear tyres on the E61 I went of 245/35 19 on all four wheels with OEM 166 M5 ET 12 front rims and no spacers. No rubbing problems whatsoever.

Yeah man thanks for the clearer advice. Can i ask some more stupid questions?
1) You have 3mm spacers on your summer set up at the rear, what do they do?
2) Is the tyre width 275 at the rear because the rear wheels are wider?
3) Are the rears wider on your setup with 167's?, the angle of the shot make it hard to see.
4) Why is the tyre wall depth 30 at the rear and 35 at the front? Surely the diameter of the wheels are the same?
5) Have you lowered your car or is it at standard BMW Sport height?
Sorry to sound so numb, but some of the pics I've seen on here with 167's on E61 M Sports look fookin' great and want to be sure I'm getting the right wheels/sizes etc. You mentioned 'lowering' and the fact that "you can spice things up" what would your advice be here? Does any of this effect BMW warranty, when changing wheels and suspension?

as you can see, the originals have offset 12 and 17, sometimes mayb 28 in the rear (for the m5), any other number means it is a fake. fake is not a good idea, the wheel might not sit properly, and you would need some adaption rings.. my advice - stick to original..

they are really so that the rear wheels are pushed out as wide as possible so that it is aligned with the fender. it is something that i wanted to do, but did not have to do it
2) Is the tyre width 275 at the rear because the rear wheels are wider?
yes the rear is 275 because the alloys in the rear are 9,5"
3) Are the rears wider on your setup with 167's?, the angle of the shot make it hard to see.

the 30 and 35 reflect the percentage of how high the tires are. for the front i have 30 which means, 35%x245mm=85,75mm , and for the rear i have 30%x275mm=82,5 -> as you can see the tires are just as thick/high. the 3mm difference is not noticeable
5) Have you lowered your car or is it at standard BMW Sport height?
it is the standard m-sport suspension, i guess 15-20 mm

in austria, you have to have everything checked as part of the mot. the rules are very strick. I have stuck to my oem. alone legalizing the winter and summer wheels have cost me about 600 eur. suspension would be another couple of hundred eur
