Hello,
anyone has an idea if that's possible? Since xDrive is there you can't use different front/back rims. Is that correct?
What is the best information source for this?

Thanks.

The best information source would have to be C's Bimmer...from my understanding you would have to use the four front wheels all around on an xdrive meaning 19 x 8.5's all around. check this link.

hope this helps

My dealer told me that you can't run a staggered setup on the E61 no matter if it has X-drive or not. So I guess 4 frontwheels are the best solution.

Gents - Here is the scoop.

First off, you can absolutely run staggered on an XI model. However, it's more suited for the sedan, rather than the wagon. How? Take a look at this link:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mo...hg=36&fg=15

What you are looking for specifically in the link above are the offsets and widths. As you can clearly see, this is a staggered set-up on an XI. Now, when you compare the STANDARD 124's on a normal, RWD E60, you will see that the offsets are much lower. This is the difference between an XI and a standard RWD model.

Here's the link for the standard, RWD wheels:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mo...hg=36&fg=15

Now, take a look at this link. This is for the WAGON. Please note how there is no staggered offered. Why? The rear wheel well on the wagon is different than the sedan. Because of self-leveling, there is less room inside the well, which makes for a different offset that would be required to run staggered.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mo...hg=36&fg=15

So, the question is, is it possible to run staggered on an XI WAGON? Yes, it is. However, the offset would need to be fairly high to prevent any rubbing inside the well and without protruding beyond the fender flares on the outside. On a sedan, an ET32 offset in the rear would actually be great (it's the front's that wouldn't work). However, on the wagon, you will need a higher offset than this because of the tighter space.

Here is another tool to use. Specs on the stock XI's (front specs only) is ET43 and width is: 8".

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

And just to throw a wrench into everything, my X5 has self-leveling and came with the 20" staggered wheels (275's up front and 315's in the rear). How is that possible, if we compare it to the wagon? Take a look at the wheel wells of the X5 versus an E61's rear wheel well with self-leveling.

Ha! Thanks Patrick.

If you search on my posts regarding what wheels will work for the XI Sedan/Wagon, you will notice a trend...a lot of redundancy

Yes, this issue (xi + wheel sizes) is a repeat offender on several message boards... But your post above covers all the angles!
