called the dealer to see about getting the rear lowered, and the shop foreman said they have no way to do this by way on the computer.. so what next..?

Either they are not telling you the truth or you should go to another dealer!

My local dealer also refused to do this. I'm not going back there again.. Other nearby stealerships would have done it for app. 200? Quite much IMO for a 15min job...? Luckily I found a former BMW-mechanic who has his own garage now and he had the software to do this, he charged me 10?

For the suspension they are right. But depending on the dealership some would be willing to overlook this.

To lower the rear just unscrew the bracket in the black box (sensor), rotate it unclockwise a bit and screw it again. To drop a bit more make sure that the pin of the bracket is off the sensor hole. Hard to explain but once you see it, is quite easy to understand.
Some Tips:
1. Few changes makes big difference in height
2. It is air suspension so it will have the same confort at all heights. Once is the amount of air in the bags that will set the height, ridding it too low will make to hit the bottom end of the suspension at the slightest bounce.
