Thanks, you saved me 3k+ but sad that such nice rims won't fit on the XI. So, I should be looking for rims that fit the standard RWD 3 and AWD x3?
If you want OEM 19s, then yes. This is an explanation of how I research the subject and a summary/conclusions at the bottom of this post.

I use this Felgenkatalog website to find out the measurements: http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/
Its run by one of the biggest German BMW Forums and is very accurate. It also has the BMW standard tyre sizes listed and in many cases also the weight of the wheels.
"Allrad" means AWD. "vorne" means front. "hinten" means rear. "Ausnahme" means exception. "ff" behind the model type basically means all related models, e.g. E90 ff also includes the E91+E92+E93.

This is example data I coped and pasted from that website and I have highlighted the X model "Allrad" info in bold type

OEM 18" style 123 (normally for E60/61), all the same size
8x18 245/40R18 ET 20
Allrad 8x18 245/40R18 ET 43

OEM 18" style 124 (normally for E60/E61), staggered
8x18 vorne 245/40R18 ET 20
9x18 hinten 275/35R18 ET 32
Allrad 8x18 vorne 245/40R18 ET 43
9x18 hinten 275/35R18 ET 55

OEM 19" style 230 (normally for E90-93), staggered
8x19 vorne 225/35R19 ET 37
9x19 hinten 255/30R19 ET 39

You then need to do is look at the width of the rim and the offset ET value (which is in Millimeters) to work out roughly if the rims will fit. If you are unsure -- which I was with this example! -- to be more accurate, use the wheel calculator tool on E90Post, which will tell you what the difference in positioning will be between your current wheel and your "future" wheel: http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12

As an example, I typed in the E60 18" "X" model style 123 sizes and the E90 19" style 230 rear wheel sizes from above. I did not calculate the front wheel differences, because they are almost the same size.
I have also included my previous RWD E61's staggered 19" settings as a point of reference, which was formally tested & and approved in Germany by T?V. The changes that I have underlined with green dotted lines show that the E90 wheel will need less space within the rear arch than my rim, i.e. it should fit with no problems!
This is what it then looks like - see screenshots below.

I am sure the style 230 rim fits on the E61 X model without spacers, so other E90 rims with the same size as the style 230 should also fit. I spent about 30 minutes last night searching for the post with the 5series.net member who fitted them to his E61 X model, but could not find it. Very strange, no idea why I can't find it

If you also consider non-OEM or replicas, then there is obviously a lot more out there. In the E60 and Accessories & Parts forums this has been covered a lot, so you'll just need to search a little. The VMR "CSL replicas" seem to be very popular, for both X and RWD owners. The principles of calculating whether it will fit or not are the same.

To summarise:
- You need to always focus on the "ET" offset value when searching for "E60" rims, that is the main difference between RWD and X models. This is because the X model axles stick out more, which in turn mean the offset needs to be larger to prevent the wheel sticking out to much and the car looking like a roller-boot!
- The E61 Touring has less space at the rear due to the Air suspension, so you need to be careful that you have enough space on the inside of the arch.
- Use the "Felgen Catalogue" link to get information about wheel & tyre sizes (what you have now and are considering)
- Use the "E90post" link to compare your current wheel size to the new wheel size you are considering (after having done this once or twice, you will have a feel for what fits and what does not, and then you no longer will need to use this)
- Use the "screen print" above, which includes info on my car, to work out if you are going to have enough space on the inside of the arch, especially between the rear wheel and air suspension
- My little investigation here concludes that the style 230 will fit, so you can also use that as a point of reference ( I would probably also go with the standard E90 tyre sizes because it will be easier to sell afterwards)

So I hope this pile of information helps and that my logic is correct, but you will have to check that yourself. You will need to invest some time to get your head around this, I have spent about an hour working on this reply!! (-- but its great to investigate something new on these cars after so many years here ) Naturally you can contact me if you need any help with what I wrote above. Good luck with your wheel search...

I will be able to confirm shortly on how well the style 230 wheels fit and look on the car as I have a set laying in my basement that I have not been using for my 3 series E90. I will post pictures and impressions when I do get them on. Not very inclined to do so during the winter months so I need to swing by my cousins garage to do this install.

Well I finally got the wheels on the wifes car and I must admit I do like the overall look. Sorry for the very poor quality pictures as they were taken with my iPhone!!! I will take some better pics possibly over the weekend to showcase the wheels better. I need to lower the car now no doubt! Next year I will most likely add the Mtech kit.

The style 230 wheels looked ok but I believe a wheel that covers the disk/brakes a better option for the E61 vs. a slim 5 spoke design.

That wheel looks great on your Touring -- great choice

Any chance of pics of the E90 on the 230s as well?!

I will take better pics of the E90 as well as I have tinted the windows since these picture were taken, added 10mm spacers in the rear and changed exhaust tips.

As promised better pics of the E61. Didn't have time to detail my car on Sunday.
