Hi all, I'm looking to get back into a BMW so I test drove a 2010 and wow what an amazing drive. I had a 1999 528iT which was totalled while parked and I miss it terribly. I've been scouring the forums and I can see the issues with this model. Has BMW resolved any of them for 2010? Is it different tubing/no valves for the pano roof drains? The self-levelling compressor okay now? HPFP, injectors etc?
I'm not afraid to wrench on my cars but I'd like to get through our oh so cold winter without having to drag myself under the car in our unheated garage
. Sorry for so many questions and thanks for any help.
Bah, sorry forgot to give details...79,000 kms and 6MT.

A few quick answers, rest you'll have to do more searching.

Mine seems to have different end plugs for the pano roof drain tubes, but I still check them every winter to see how well they flow to be safe. Easy enough to do to pour some water in the drains. No issues in two years.
Self leveling compressor I don't think is that common to go.
Tailgate hatch wires and diversity module are. But they're not the end of the world to fix in terms of how hard or cost, so I wouldn't avoid the car for that by any means.
HPFP and injectors are covered under a recall, so dealer can check / fix them for you. No biggy again. You can probably call them with the VIN and have them check in advance.
This is the most fun car I've had - I absolutely love it every time I drive it, and am hoping to keep it for years, as who knows when another beautiful wagon like this will ever make it to our shores again. I came from an 09 Volvo XC70 with a T6 engine.
DO IT!

Thanks for the reply Lotus99.
I got some more info today, HPFP and injectors have been replaced and I'm trying to get a hold of the service records. I looked in the spare wheel well and I can't see any indication of water so that's good at least. It will be a CPO car once get it.
Now I was told this car doesn't have self-levelling suspension but a multi link suspension. Does this sound right?

I have a 08 E61 and really like it. Did have a number of issues with HPFP and vanos. No problem with roof drains and rear suppression. 2012/13 was the first year that I had a trouble free year of ownership and just went to the dealer for annual oil change and inspection. I first leased the car and liked it so much that I purchased it at the end of the lease.
I really like the wagon and don't really like the bigger 5 that they are producing. I would however look at a new 3 wagon.
