Adjust on the i Drive? not on a 04 model unless a power tailgate is an extra?

I took delivery of my E61 in June. I also have the problem with the lazy tailgate and it started recently when it became cold outside. I'm going to see the dealer about it.

Got my car back today. Dealer replaced two struts on the tailgate and now it's perfect. All done under warranty.

Glad the dealer fixed it, mine being a '04, I guess I will be paying for the struts!

Mine was an 04 as well but it's a BMW Approved Used car that I've had less than 2 months.

I drove by the dealer today and they will fix it on Friday while I'm waiting. They weren't surprised at all about the problem. I guess I wasn't the first one to have the struts replaced.

Confirm it is a common problem - think I am on my third strut on one side, second on the other ;-)

Also on second parcel shelf - the early ones didn't retract very well due to small plastic rollers, and using info off this site asked to be fixed. They replaced the whole thing, which was nice as the old one was a bit worn. Still doesn't retract regularly though
