All

i'm still not particularly happy with the ride quality of my m535d touring. Unfortunately the wife likes the safety aspects of the RFTs, so I can't change them.

I'm conscious that the OEM suspension was not changed to work with the RFTs, so am wondering if there's anything aftermarket I could consider (Eibach, Koni etc).

does anyone have any suggestions as to suspension changes I can make to improve the ride? Especially the level of compliance over bumpy surfaces? I am happy to raise the ride height slightly if necessary (might also help prevent kerbing the spoiler!).

thanks for your help,

UV

Just 4 weeks ago I have installed a full Bilstein B6 Sport suspension on my 535D e61.

Why Bilstein?

My car has also Active Steering and Dynamic Drive . This is not compatible with M suspension. Another problem is the Pneumatic rear levelling system. (Only for Tourings)

So at the BMW dealer they did not know whether the "Sports" BMW suspension could be mounted on a Touring with DA and DD.

After throughfull research I found someone who recommended me this option.

Sport Bilstein shock is designed to not lowering your car by shorter springs. I have heard about problems from guys who did lowered their cars. (Tiago, member of this forum from Portugal)

So I am absolutely happy with the new ride of the car. Precise in sinuous and heavy turned roads and great at high speeds also. (My car speed limiter was disabled)

Combined with new 4 Continental F1 tyres.....is the definite arm!

It costed me 1000 Euros all included.

PS Your RFlat are compatible also...

By using B6, is that you keep the stock spring? How is the ride quality and handling?

Thanks for the info... I'll look at the Bilstein you recommend. Are there any compatibility issues with the m-sport suspension? I'm certainly not looking at lowering the car any further than its current m-sport setup - if anything, I may consider raising it up a bit if this gives better ride quality...

ps did you lose your self-levelling suspension as a consequence of the change?

The B6 Sport shocks are designed to be used with no shortened springs but std. ones. That is ideal to me since I do not like to scratch my car?s spoiler when parking forewards...

The levelling capabilities remain unaffected as well.

It is just a change of shocks.

Manouvring the car is great since. Consider that the original Sachs shocks technic is based on an internal spring, however the Bilstein ones have gas inside. This means a diffeent "touch".

Smooth but firm.

M original suspension is not compatible with DD. You can just orde "Sports" suspension. (Something related to different active stabilizing bars diameter as well as lowered springs)
