We went on a short vacation 4-5 day vacation over Easter, driving 500 miles round trip.

After much debate we decided not to take the E61 but instead our VW Touran. Reasons were:

(1) very tight parking next to our apartment, meaning possible door dents from a-holes parking too close
(2) Car too long for our garage (enclosed) parking.
(3) Alternative was public car-park, but could be subject to vandalism, theft, which has previously occurred to our E91.

My wife thinks I am being overly protective to the car and bit crazy. I beginning to think the same?..am I the only one ?

I think it's a shame when you can't take the nicer car due to worries about it getting damaged. We have the BMW and a Mini, the Mini goes into town with us for many of the reasons you mentioned, but we'd always take the Bimmer for longer drives.

Thanks goodeness I am not the only one !!!

It was quite a pleasant experience driving the Touran, 170bhp, 17" low profile wheels, sport suspension, not bad for a mini-van, that thing really moves....but definately does not handle well.

I noticed one strange thing; in my E61 folks are more respectful / cautious on the road, in the Touran, not so. Except for letting me out of junctions etc, where they never do this in the E61, but more so in the Touran.

Anyway no chance I will buy a Touran soon, but maybe the F11 (M Sport).
