helping the typical Diversity Antenna issue

I have a new-to-me 2010 535xiT and within about a month had the typical Diversity Antenna issue pop up.

On my previous E61 I did not find standing water in the antenna area, but this one had enough water to slosh around. I set about drying it out then tried to reflow the board joints where corrosion occurred. It helped but only got me about 24 inches of range - not ideal by any stretch! I ordered an E63 antenna and can confirm it's a drop in replacement minus the captive screw part, easily addressed by pushing the screws out. Fun times. In order to help prevent future issues I smeared dielectric grease on the connector pins as well as on the power solder joints to keep the water away.

I also wanted to try to address the excess water, and while surfing for some aux lights on my Discovery 2 found some headlight vent pucks from Diode Dynamics that essentially act as 1 way breathers for headlight fogging. I figured it couldn't hurt to try so I drilled two 1/4" holes per directions then applied the breathers. A quick test seems to show promise but I'll reserve judgement until I can get some soggy miles in before I declare it a success.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there.

Cheers,

Hey Neighbor-
Congrats on the "new to you" E61! They aren't easy to come by.
My key fob stopped working about a month ago but I figured it was just the wiring since I only ever replaced the L & R tailgate harnesses. I bought the Senncom trio but left out the one that goes to the spoiler because there weren't signs of failure at the time. I'll need to crack it open sooner than later to check for water and now replace the harness if needed. Hopefully I won't need to replace the diversity antenna. I wonder how that water gets in there like that.
Thanks for the input.

Erv from IL.
