Hi All,

My 2nd post here (I posted in introduce yourself section first!) - so please go gentle on me!! I must say, a great forum - so nice to be here!

Well, I just traded my e46 convertible (sob) for an E61 Jan 2007 build (56 plate) as our first baby is due soon!

A few questions if I may...

1) Anyone know if the E61 in UK comes with first aid kit as mine seems to be missing - I take it it goes in boot side cubby hole? Can someone post a pic of what it looks like - or point me to one for sale on a well known auction site (UK) as I'd like to get one (should have taken mine out of my e46 really).

2) Similar to the above, my glove box torch seems to be missing - I seem to have the socket but no torch - ebay again I guess. I see on realoem that they seem to say that the torch is "ENDED" - do you have one on your e61?

3) I can't believe the CD changer in my 2007 car can't handle mp3s - I did read a post somewhere that said his did - but most posts say that the CD changers do NOT do mp3's - so please can someone just confirm what I think and that they do NOT! (I can play mp3s fine in the CD single slot on dash!) - this q brings me on to...

4) I seem to have the AUX in port in the back of the centre console, does this mean I should have USB - I guess not as I can't locate it!! What would be the best way of adding one? (just to add - have no plans to get an iPod or iPhone at the mo - just would like mp3 capability from USB stick as CD changer seems to be a little dated in terms of its ability!).

Thanks all - I'm sure I will have more questions for you - by the way I have been searching for a while and not just posting q's without trying first! (still trying to research why my contacts wil not synch with BMW bluetooth from my Symbian (I think that's the issue!!) based Nokia e65 phone!!).

Cheers,
Slime.

Welcome to the forum Slime!

I am sure you will love your E61, great blend of technology and presence.

I have a saloon so am not sure how to answer question 1 - my first aid kit is stashed along with the warning triangle and toolkit in a plastic hatch under the trunk, where is your toolkit? Is the first aid kit there too? Have a close look.

Our cars do not come with the torch as standard, I had an E46 which had one, but you have to order them as an option for the E60/61.

Can't help with 3 or 4 but someone will give you a steer.

Good luck,

First, Welcome to the forum!
Without knowing any diffs between UK and Swedish cars and what's standard and what's not:
Q1: Yes it should come with 1st Aid kit! It is located behind the right side panel in the trunk - above the battery.
Q2: No torch as standard - not here in Sweden anyway...
Q3: Don't think the disc changer plays mps's (maybe someone can fill in?).. Single player does however, just as you say.
Q4: No you don't have USB! If you had, BOTH USB and AUX would be located inside the center console box. Without USB, the AUX is located in the back of the console.

Congrats to your car! ...and the baby!

Everything above is correct and the e60/61 CD changer cannot play mp3s but you dash cd player should.

Re the torch - someone bought me one to go in the glove box but to be honest I'd just buy a small LED wind up torch and store that in the glove box in the same place (not plugged in obviously). My wife has a small led wind up torch from Blacks and it's much brighter than my BMW one and being wind up never needs the batteries replacing so just as good as recharging it in the car. Oh, it's cheaper too.

Many thanks for the replies and the congrats on the car and the baby.

Loving the car - but still can't get the Nokia e65 to synch - other people with same prob though! Useful info on the torch - I can't believe that you spend loads of dosh on these cars and no torch!!! 1st aid kit is annoying - I wonder what the $tealers would charge? Anybody got a pic of what one should look like for the e61 touring? Might see if I can get one from ebay. Defo not got one in my car.

USB looks like retrofit is not doable unless Denison 500 or the new BMW stuff - both options seem expensive but might just be worth it as I can't see myself using the changer unless BMW do a newer version that does mp3s (like on the e46 - I bought a newer CD changer for mp3s).

If you bought the car from a BMW dealer as an AUC car go back to them and get them to provide the first aid kit. That is standard and was supplied with the car originally. It should be behind the panel on the right hand side of the boot as you look into the boot (above the battery).
I believe you can buy the first aid kit as an accessory.

Welcome on board and congrats on the new ride!

Sounds like you have the questions covered by the others.

With regards to the USB, in this thread they are talking about the new retrofit offering from BMW -- click here.

I have USB option on my current LCI (face lift) E60, but in my last E60 I just used the AUX connector to connect my MP3 player. The downside is that you cannot use your iDrive screen to scroll through music and you have to control it from your MP3 player. I personally did not have much of an issue with this, because I would typically select a playlist and then put the MP3 player into the centre console storage area.
Alternatively you have can have the iPOD adaptor retrofitted, which would replace your CD changer. You can then scroll your MP3 player via the iDrive. I believe that is a cheaper option than the one in the link above, but you'd need to check for yourself.
