Thumbs up

Hi everyone.

Just signed up today since I bought an E61 on Saturday - my first BMW. It's a 2005 535 M Sport touring (UK model). Not collected it from the dealer yet, but I can't wait!

I probably should have checked here first, before buying it, but are there any particular problems with these cars that I should look out for? I've already seen something about a hose for the rear suspension and something regarding the panoramic roof (which I don't have on mine). Are there any other common faults I should know about? I'd rather nip them in the bud and get the dealer to look into them before I collect it.

Any info or threads you could point me to would be most appreciated.

Regards,
Andy

Andy

Welcome..! I'm pretty new to 535 ownership too.

I have had one problem and that was with the boot lid popping up. I know some others have had the same problem too.
Dealer fixed under warranty. All good.

Apart from that.. Enjoy the oil burner!

Welcome to both of you! and don't be shy, post some pic of your rides...

Do a search on the forum for:
- swirl flaps
- DPF (diesel particle filter)
- panoramic roof issues
- water in trunk / panoramic roof drainage valves
- electronics in spare tyre well
- rear gate cable harness
- rear suspension compressor
- battery drainage

these are mostly the serious issues you should be aware of

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll post a pic once I collect the car (gonna be a week or two whilst the paperwork gets sorted out unfortunately).

mmitev - that's quite a list. Is this a purchase I'm going to regret?

At least 2 of those shouldn't be an issue for me as I don't have the panoramic roof. I'll get reading and searching though. I've been very lucky with reliability on previous cars!

Hi,

The wiring next to the taigate hinges can become brittle and corrode

Problems: Tailgate not working
Radio Inop
Keyfob not operating alarm

I Have a 2004 E61 3l diesel

I stripped the wiring out and replaced the suspect wires and it now works perfectly. Luckily I'm an ex mechanic and the repair was a piece of cake. I've heard 'stealers' charging mega bucks to sort it. If you get the problem go to a specialist and tell them where the problem might be and it will be much cheaper!(about 3 hours work).

Oh yeh, the exhaust manifold can crack! exhaust fumes in the cab.

Dont let these things scare you off though! Lovely motor

Cheers

That pretty much covers it.

yep, exactly and I still forgot the exhaust manifold

andy, to answer your question: I had problems with the compressor (replaced), and the roof drains (flooded the trunk, replaced one control module), as well as some discomfort while figuring out how the DPF works, and replacing an old battery.. but I still love the car on the road its unbeatable

Never!

But I may keep paying for a warranty once the BMW ones finishes!

Mmitev, was the roof drainage thing because you have a panoramic roof?

Thanks to everyone who replied BTW.
