Hello E61!
Well, after a very enjoyable 15,000 mile fling with a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 we got another Bimmer wagon. We retired our beloved E39 5-speed (with a shorty-shifter!) about a year ago as its odometer approached 150k and the repair bills approache our mortgage!
Anyhow, we were very happy with the Jeep and then fate struck. I accidentally found a stick-shift wagon in the green/tan combo we so liked on our last one.
The North Carolina dealership had it by accident... it was a special order car that was supposed to be built with an automatic but it arrived with 3 pedals instead of 2! The buyers passed and the dealership scrambed to get them an automatic... but were stuck with the stick when it was all done.
I found the car listed on E-bay. Several times. I got our very friendly local dealer to buy the car from the North Carolina and it was shipped to Pittsburgh.
Hopefully my pictures post okay and tell the rest of the story! You might have to scroll left to see them. Check out the expression on our 2-year old's face the first time we opened the panoramic roof!
Incidentally, about two weeks ago our local dealer checked the national inventory for wagons... there were 250 available... that would be 5 per state. Of the 250 only 4 were stick shifts! Seeing how difficult it was for the North Carolina dealer to sell this car I am more sympathetic to the lack of manual transmission inventory than I ever was before. But it ain't a Volvo... the stick is a blast!
