Great car

Nice and classical Alpina decal-set.

Seems pretty pointless - the standard car has well over 500PS anyway. The 500PS figure was recorded on a well-worn test hack in the summer heat of Dubai. Apparently, even a weaker-engined standard car will put out well over 500ps in normal European weather conditions. I seem to recall EVO recorded an estimated 516ps on the dyno.

And a standard B5 Touring has been timed around Nardo (by AM+S magazine, with Andreas Bovensiepen at the wheel) at 318km/h, I think it was.

If I modded the Alpina, I'd be looking to get at least 550ps...

Surely though the extra 100Nm of torque is worthwhile?

Actually, less than you would think - first, it seems odd that they claim to have found an extra 100Nm at a lower RPM peak, without finding much (if any) extra power ; second, I'd rather have the same torque (700Nm is plenty, really), but with a bit more top-end horsepower - for a start, that would put less strain on the transmission, although I note that the same basic gearbox seems to cope with the power and torque of the latest Bentley Arnage T!

When you are driving a 525d, an additional 100nm of torque is needed, especially as i like to drive low in the revs to save fuel and to 'poke it' when having fun. Accept the comment re no extra power though...

sorry mate but the nautilus style compressor cannot handle the boost necessary for 550bhp.. the transmission would be fine but not the compressor.. And besides you said before that the top end of the engine was pegged (not to embarras the ///m) ... this is what your looking for , a slight increase in top end power, and a large increase in bottom end torque
