Hi,

I have a strange behaviour with my almost new E61 520d touring from 04.2008:

Already three times the hatchback has opened itself. Twice this happend in the public during I was shopping, once it happend at home under our carport.

In all three cases I had closed all doors and the hatchback before I left the car alone. In two cases when I came back not only the hatchback was open, but the central locking as well, in one case only the hatchback was open.

I can open my hatchback inside the car and at the hatch itself when the car itself is unlocked, furthermore I can do it with the remote control of my car key. Here I have to press the button until the door is fully opened, which takes several seconds and can thus NOT happen accidently.

Can it be that the hatchback got opened by a remote signal of another car key, a childrens toy with remote control or whatever? Is there anybody out there who has heard about such phenomenons ?

I would be glad about each hint from you, because else it will become difficult my to ask for a correction from BMW.

I cannot find any hint related to autonomous tailgate opening in the link you mentioned, but I will keep it in mind when I will go to my BMW garage.

wires going from lock release are those mentioned in that thread, believe me or not... my car was self locking/un locking while driving down the road or opening the gate, wires were already without any insulation and touching itself... just take that right (passenger side) speaker off and move with those cables (there are two insulated wire linings) and see what happens... they will be dead or almost dead anyways, lot of tourings have this issue...

1) Where do I find the right (passenger side) speaker ?
2) Why do you think that lots of touring do have the issue ?
3) Can I forecome the problem by putting core around those cables that touch each other or fix it with isolating tape ?

Thanks in advance.

Thats very strange. I've heard of the remote key being pressed in the pocket/bag by other object by accident. But that doesn't seem to be your case.

I had a look to my car, I found the speaker in the rear on the passengers side, but how do I open it in order to check the cabling ?
