Hello Gentlemen ? I?m a Sports Wagon owner wannabe :) . I've been reading the board for a few days and would like to get further learned opinion.

Two questions: what is the preferred configuration (I am in the U.S.), and year for a slightly used wagon; I?m looking at 07s and 08s. Is the 535xi engine proving to be as reliable as the 530xi? Any must have, or have not options?

I?m checking prices on CPO cars (via BMWUSA.COM), are the dealers getting those asking prices?!?! Thanks in advance.

Options will be completely up to you. Keep looking for the ones you want then test drive it. Most here would definitely suggest sport and premium pkgs. Aside form that an SMG would be nice, Logic 7 sound system, NAV - if you want it, and iPod integration (this one will keep you from posting a thread after purchase, trust me) - good luck and, WELCOME to the 5 series family. :D

I am not a wagon guy but the 535's engine has had significant issues with the high pressure fuel pump. But I think that this issue is well worth it given the dramatic difference in power between 530 and 535.

I am not huge on a ton of options, but to me, must haves include Logic 7, cold weather package and nav.

For a non XI car, sport is a must have for me.

Yeah, I forgot to mention the Cold Weather pkg, mainly because it's just as useful as a snowblower here in SoCal, but since you live in NY it would be a really good idea

The E60 has one of the best seat heaters on the planet. It heats up quick and it is hot. And the heated steering wheel is just terrific.

The engine in the 530i is bullet proof, the engine in the 535i is shaping up to be reliable, apart from the fuel pump failures. This shouldn't worry you though, since the pumps are covered for 10 years :)

+1

Also, don't pay the asking price. These days, you can get some great deals for CPO or even brand new. Shop around and GL.
