Has anyone had experience of Falken tyres on an E61 M Sport ? I have read all kinds of stories about how standard tyres should not be fitted to the touring because of the extra load rating and weight of the car etc.

I know standard tyres are fitted successfully to the sedan / saloon, but any experiences of getting the standard tyres on the touring would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't know what you mean by 'standard'. Do you mean non-run flat? If so, I've run non-RF winter tyres on my car for the last two years with LESS problems than with RF.

Presumably, so long as the load rating and speed rating (99H) match the OEM tyres, there should be no problems.

I run Falken 912s on an estate car (granted, it's a Benz, but it's also heavy as hell). They're a decent compromise between noise/wear/performance. Mostly, they're affordable, not noisy, and last 30K+ mi.

I have managed to puncture 2 of the sidewalls though, but mostly because I somehow keep trying to drive the wagon up the curb.

Just get the ones with the XL markings and the stiffer sidewalls will be fine.

The approved tire sizes and their minimum load ratings are on a label on the driver's door jamb - adhere to those and you'll be fine.

That was my main concern, getting the load rating correct and spot-on. Still getting lots of conflicting advice on that.

Current tyres (useless Good Year Eagle NCT5's) are Y rated !

LOL, no wonder you're having trouble. That's not a load rating, it's a speed rating!

Read up here on various tire ratings: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=35

If you go and configure your car, then say show me tires, and pick the OEM replacement ones, you'll see what your car came with, and pick a load rating close to it. That's how I've done it, as I didn't know the sticker would show load ratings too. I knew the size and inflation pressures of tires were there. Makes sense that the load rating would be there too of course...

PS According to which, the load rating on our cars is 93 (based on the OEM tire) for the 18's and 94 for the 17's.
