Hi,

I need help to sort this one out... please

I'm portuguese but now I'm working in Angola, so my wife is at home driving our '04 E61 530d! I've decided to stop using RFT tyres and change to normal ones, 245/40-18, but after doing this I needed one solution in case my wife add a tyre puncture or other problem on a wheel, I've then purchase from one internet shop one original emergency set from BMW ref.36110308889! Because I'm not in Portugal, my wife received the set this week and when she tried to fit it on the trunk ledge look what happened on the picture, it doesn't fit!!?? Why doesn't it fit if that part number belongs and it's compatible to my car? Is something wrong or there is another solution? Help please...

Another thing, I've a damaged front below headlight PDC sensor, does anyone have one to sell?

Best rgds to everyone and thanks in advance for any help/advice...

strange, but I remeber that my hole for inserting the emergency tyre was bigger than yours..

Maybe they changed the design since they mount runflat tyres..

Maybe it's a tyre for X3/X5 that you ordered..

I remember that my last cars emergency tyre looked like the same, but why it doesn't fit your trunk..I have no idea..

Did your wife remove the fixing on top of the pin ?

Good luck anyways

Hi Ivano,

My wife did remove the fixing, the tyre simply doesn't fit on the trunk ledge, it's strange because when I insert my car serial(Chassis) number on the realOEM parts site the serial number for the emergency tyre set that comes out is 36110308889, the one I bought, and it should fit...

Thanks for the help, I will update the info I get here on the post, someonelse might have the same issue...

Just buy the BMW Mobility Kit, put it in the trunk and enjoy the non-RFT!

Did you think of Pulling the carpet under the tray/load floor...
Mine is all metal and goes way down. There are 2 foam inserts at the bottom of the tire well that take up the space that used to be occupied by the Power dist/regulation cpu box.

Looking at the picts your back end is drastically different than mine

When I got mine I remember reading about this problem. From what I can gather, there are three solutions.

The first is to use a dremmel or similar to remove the ridges that hold the cross members in place when there's no wheel in there. I'm assured it will then fit.

The second is to buy a new piece of carpet from BMW that's been designed to hold the wheel and doesn't have the lips. But when I enquired, I think it's about £40.

The final is the one you've already discovered. And the one I've done at the minute.

Had same issue...and used same solution.
I ended up having non RFT because...BMW made a mistake when they mounted new tyres! so i got the spare set for free....but failed to see it was not fitting ...till I removed the useless piece of carpet. Anyway enjoying the non RFT. This + panoramic roof joint changed makes the car so quiet..

As you discovered you need to pull the carpet and the wheel will fit.

BMW sell a replacement carpet for approx 60 Euros / Dollars, but it's not worth it.

TIP: You might want to fit some plastic sheet liner under the wheel, because if any liquid spills in the car trunk, it will find it's was under the trunk floor, and down into the spare wheel space, where it will get into the now unprotected electronic components that sit under the polystyrene liner. The carpet liner usually protects these electronic components, but since it's now been removed to fit the spare wheel they are unprotected.

There is a TSB to relocate all of the Electronics from that location now. This is due to the large number of sunroof seal failures.I think BMW even made a relocation kit, with new under doughnut tire foam inserts.

The only electronics that are located anywhere under the load floor now after the change is the controller for the Bluetooth, radio,SOS, and that is located in a raised tray with a flange/lip all the way around it on the "upper" part of the rear load shelf directly behind the rear seats. Every thing else has now been put "elevated" up under the sides to keep water or liquids from reaching them, short of turning your car in to a U-boot or some form of insurance fraud practiced in south Florida
