Hello all, can anyone help?
I have a 57 plate E61 Touring which has recently developed a strange habit. The rear tailgate window pops open usually when starting the car from cold. Also when this happens there is usually a problem getting it to stay closed and when it is closed it is not always possible to open the rear tailgate.
Possibly related to this, or not, I recently received the recall letter from BMW re the battery positive terminal and 3 or 4 times since the car has been completely reset in the morning when I put the key in, the battery charge is fine and the car starts no problem. I did once get a very brief message on the dash re something like 'Battery over drain' with the car on ramps icon, but not before or since.
I appreciate that these may be unrelated problems, but they have started happening at the same time. The car is booked into my local BMW dealer for the battery recall next week.
Cheers
And thanks if you can help!

Likewise....
My 07 520dSE Touring has been doing the same but now the glass tailgate has locked solid! Rear wash/ wipe and heated screen still working OK - although rear washer fluid appears to be coming from under spoiler rather than from washer jet!!
Booked into local dealer (Arden) Monday for battery lead recall then my indie (H&C) on Tuesday for tailgate and rear washer!
Will post the outcomes!!

Hi
I agree with others Its the switch for the glass panel that is faulty, which makes the panel open on its own and flag up high batery drain warnings
Ive replaced mine today,
When I came to open the glass to get to the wiring etc, the switch had stopped working altgether![Frown](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/sad.gif)
Other posts said to remove the trim to acess the manual release,
what I did was to take off the wiper arm 10mm nut, remove the 24mm nut holding the switch, this allows you the pull the switch away from the glass exposing the two wires, I cut these and touched them together and the glass opend![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)
now I could get to the wiring etc
I did check first with BMW that there wasnt a resistor in the switch and was told" no its just a press to make contact switch"
I opened the old switch and found water inside !!!!!!!!!
Maybe getting in when using jet wash cleaning companys ????
Good luck
