We have an 08 535xi wagon.....168k miles. Nothing was wrong with her engine wise until a hose blew off the back of the water pump. Long story short after 2 days stuck, my husband couldn't get a oil level reading on the car, ANYONE ELSE LOVE THE ABSENSE OF THE OIL DIPSTICK? (guessing it wasn't to temp) and in his haste....added almost an entire bottle of Seafoam to the oil....(he knows, I know.....OOPS) According to him it nearly hydro locked the motor, we've since drained/flushed the system of the liquified oil, replaced the oil twice, each time using a new filter, bought and replaced all 6 fuel injectors, spark plugs, and ignition coils. He programmed the injectors.....we run JB4 and use an MHD flasher....it was misfiring in 1,2 and 3...misfires have gone away mostly, but yesterday the 4th ignition coil was popped out....

Not sure if you are intending to ask questions or just vent, I can understand why you would do either. Perhaps the oil level sensor isn't working? They don't fail too often, but I did have the one on my E46 fail and it's the same part to the best of my knowledge.

It's hard to keep up with what all my husband is doing as issues arise/develop or disappear. The engine oil level sensor is fine, as it gives us an accurate reading once the oil has gotten up to temperature. The e46 325touring we had prior to this car had a physical oil dipstick. You didn't have to wait for an electronic reading. We usually ohm out any sensor that we suspect an issue with....(little tidbit of info, he will clear any and all codes right away, everytime they pop up. He'll check them to see what they are, and if they're reoccurring and he thinks the computer just needs to catch up to whatever change he's made, he clears them) the codes that have come up are misfires in 1,2,3(individually) and a code for multiple cylinder misfires. Also had/have code 2E7C- BSD data bus communications fault. We have a code for the ambient sensor because it's not there. It was either already gone when we bought the car, or when we had a leak in our oil cooler and we pulled it the sensor went with it. Haven't been able to find the wires that would have led to the sensor to replace it...
Today he pulled the spark plug from the cylinder that the coil had come loose, and the porcelain was lose on the plug, said it was able to spin freely around but wasnt cracked or damaged. He always buys Bosch spark plugs....and replaced it today.
I'm looking for solutions or ideas as to what's wrong with her because if we lose this car, were F@¢#*d
My fear is pitching a rod. The car is driven very hard, he's got it boosting over factory, last I heard was it was boosting at 14....isn't that a bit too high?
As for venting, I do miss our e46......amazing platform and I'm personally a huge fan of the more mechanical engines.....I found it more DIYable.....
