Forum Experts Rudy???
I was phoned by my SA today from the main BMW dealer here in Edmonton to tell me that they could not do a rear diff oil change on my 2006 530xi touring . I was dumfounded. From the searches I have done I can see that there are at least 2 types of diffs; 1 with fill hole only and 1 with drain and fill hole. Is there any without any holes??. Are these the only 2 types??
Mine does have the cooling fins on the back of the diff.

Thanks

Of course they can. Well, maybe they can't, but someone could. BMW wouldn't make a diff that can't be drained and filled.

You are correct. I followed up at the dealership and it is because they don't have a suction pump to get the oil out that is causing them to say that there is no drain plug. Of course BMW tells them that the oil is lifetime fill so they don't feel obliged to persue it at all. Really irritating .

If they don't have any sort of fluid pump/vacuum, I wouldn't let them anywhere near my car. Those things are $100 retail, and come in handy for all sorts of things. If they don't think they need one, I'd wonder what other kinds of tools they've tried to save money on.

If they haven't needed one, that means they haven't done much "hardcore" service. Anyone can change oil, but what if you need a major repair? I'd find another dealer if I were you.
