Just went to do my first fill up from the smelly pump.
I used to use Shell Optimax in my Subaru, but I'm not sure if there are good/bad brands of diesel fuel.
Anyone noticed any differences ?
Also, can the 530d use biodiesel (I'll be asking my dealer this one too).
Cheers
Nick

Due to very poor fuel consumption (20-22mpg around town) I tried running only on "quality" branded diesel, sometimes the extra expensive premium stuff and no supermarket fuels. Made no difference.
Now run on whatever is the nearest not too expensive fuel station

BMW say no to biodiesel (its in the handbook) although it appears many people have tried it anyway.
I would never use cheap stuff other than the odd tankful, modern fuel systems are so sensitive that it just isn't worth the risk. Agree that you don't get a noticeable improvement in mpg.
One brand is supposed to be higher (whatever is the diesel equivalent of) octane, BP I think it was.
