Default DDE fault

Hey guys

First post here

After my car returned from having it's MOT done recently, I allowed it to run very low on fuel (0 miles on range comp). I immediately drove to the petrol station and put about quarter of a tank in. The car stood unused for about 4 weeks. Upon going to start the car I was met with a bank of faults including fuel pump errors. After taking advice from another forum I purchased the DIS software and lead and cleared the faults and tested again which left me with 2 faults CAN system analysis and EKPS fuel-pump control. I had a visit from a mechanic friend today who couldn't get his 5 grand Snap On computer to communicate with the car but after using DIS and investigating further, it's showing communication problems with DDE? I have popped in a new battery today but I cannot register it with the car as that too is having problems communicating and is showing a DDE error.

Any ideas?

Regards

Jonny

I would have guessed the empty battery as well.

You can do the registering later, don't worry about that. Can you clear the errors with DIS or INPA with the new battery installed?

Hi Anzafin

I can clear the kind of generic errors ie fuel pump, cruise control failure etc but the same 2 remain CAN system analysis and EKPS fuel-pump control. I am using DIS to check errors.

The guy who looked at it earlier said he seemed to think the fault lay in the way the car was communicating with it's components.

After googling the problems a lot of people seem to have had problems with the DDE relay but I am not sure if that is just on diesels and if I do have one, where to find it

Would I be right in thinking that DDE is related to diesel cars?

DIS flagged it as an error (it did give another code with the DDE but I can't remember which)

It seems like the car/fueling system can't communicate with whatever is causing the problem and so is preventing the fuel being released. I can hear the pump going etc

DDE stands for Digital Diesel Electronics and DME stands for Digital Motor Electronics and this is what you have.

Hey Antti

so would there be a DME relay as any investigative work I try and do seems to end at that point

would this act as a block with the fueling system?

Any idea where I could find it?

More importantly, any idea how much these bad boys cost?

Relays usually are very cheap...
I haven't heard about this issue, but I earlier today read some article and you may have a clue there to follow. Let me search that article.

The relay box should locate in the engine bay on the right side of the car, right behind the front strut.

Here. Use a google translator: BMW TIS.
