Combox retrofit questions

for those that have done the Combox retrofit on their e61's, how did you all go about doing the wiring? in my vehicle the TCU and the MULF2 are quite far apart. they are not sandwiched together like it seems to be in other cars. i am assuming this is the same for other e61's. did you all just create longer pigtails for the lead to the TCU?

any other wiring/coding hiccups that come to mind that seemed to be e61 specific? is a black USB extension cable needed?

Thanks,

G~

just to answer my own question. in my wagon the MULF's wiring was nicely bundled together including the MOST, Black USB connector and the main MULF wiring loom. it is held down to the car by a small plastic push unclip, that i just pulled it out of and 2 zip ties. one easily accessible near the edge of the spare tire well and one that is kind of hidden under the plastic trim piece just beyond this other sip tie. i had to loosen this trim piece to get my cutters in there to remove the zip tie. 2-10mm nuts and a plastic plunger type trim hold down. once these zip ties are removed i was able to nicely run the wire bundle just under neath the loosened trim piece to where the TCU is located. i did not need to get an extension for any of the connections. all of the trim pieces went back together as they should and the moved wiring did not interfere with them at all. came out nice and neat.

Hi,

I was planning to do this for a long time now, got all the pieces as shown in the pictures, mine is a 09 model with all the options. Do you think it should be straight forward in my case as well. I retrofitted CIC from a '10 535i E60 and looks like it is on C1A version.

thanks for any help you can provide

sorry, it has been a while since i did the CIC retrofit. i was hoping reading what i wrote would bring back more info in my head. i think it is one of those, you just got to start getting in there and it will make more sense as you start chasing the wires needed from and to the various modules. if the back of the wagon was not full from a recent biking vacation i would get a few pics of how it is all put together now, but i just cannot get to the panels right now.

No problem. Thanks for getting back though. One quick question, did you end up using retrofit harness or just moved the pins from the existing connectors to the new connector? I see we have more than enough cable length unlike on E60s.

i want to say i used the original harness as i had to swap wires for the Night Vision camera. i wanted to keep the wires organized.
