Chrome Tailpipe Trims
#1
Tailpipe trims are looking a littler tired on my cars exhaust system on my 525d M Sport. Does anyone have ideas on how to clean them? or better still possibilities of replacing them? My thoughts are the trims are welded ontot the exhaust tailpipes. Open to any suggestions

You've tried a metal polish? That's always worked really well for me. Maybe try putting it on a disc attached to a drill and do it? I've used Autosol and it's been great, but there are others I'm sure.

Take a piece of wood and a hammer. Put the wood piece behind the inner (towards the rear axle) edge of the trim under the car, knock it with the hammer in direction towards the rear of the car and the trim will slide out.
Then clean them with basic cleaning products and a tar remover (available in any gas station).
Then you can polish them with Autosol or similar product and some wire wool as Lotus suggested.
However, if they've never been cleaned before, I am pretty sure that the outer edges will have corroded to the point where the chrome has dissolved, so you won't be able to return it to "as new" conditioin. In that case, you can buy a new set. Not exactly cheap, but if you're after the look - probably worth it...
