I have a question - I searched, so if this is has already been discussed, my apologies for missing the conversation. We are preparing to buy a convertible car seat for our son. This seat will have to fit behind either the driver's seat or the passenger's seat, rear-facing for at least the next 6 months. Anyone have a suggestion for a seat that fits nicely?

It is what I have been using for my baby since she was born. It works great! Spend the money, feel secure.

initially my wife and I went with a graco snug ride, fit great, bought an extra base to make it easier to switch between cars..

we also purchased the grac snap and go stroller, which was light weight and paired well with the snugride..

when our daughter outgrew the snug ride we went with a True Fit Car seat (both rear and fwd facing)

I think if we would do it again we would just stick with the True Fit from the beginning. This seat fit perfectly behind the passenger seat (even with my wife sitting in the front, she's 5'5")

When it comes it child safety you can never comprimize... First of all, I would never buy or borrow an "older" seat, not that you mention to do that. With that said, I would look towards either Maxi-cosi, Römer or Recaro.
I can reccomend the follwing:

Thanks everyone for the input!

Bruce, the hubster says we'll pass, as it would cost us about $200 to ship it over here.

Got a Maxi-Cosi here too. Great pairing with Quinny strollers, they're very light and compact.
