Can I install LCI PDC sensors on pre-LCI car?
#1
I want to install an LCI bumper on my pre-LCI car.
The new bumper comes with PDC sensors and everything.
The only issue that bothers me is: will the car accept the LCI PDC sensors?
I posted this topic in the E60 section but got almost no attention:

Any ideas or opinions from you guys?

Don't know for sure if the earlier car can be programed to recognize them, but the '07 had as an option what appear to be the same sensors, front and back, as are on the later cars. There is a switch on the center console stack, between the seat heater switches, that you need, and the sensors display on the same center display screen. If you don't get front sensors, that may cause issues since the normal system has both, and both front and rear activate together -if the fronts are missing I would expect some sort of fault warning given the computer diagnostics in there. If you want the bumper anyway, the sensors can just be left unconnected if they won't work.

Apparently its pretty difficult to explain this as I never manage this quite right lol:
I already have a pre-LCI car with PDC.
Its just that I want to replace the pre-LCI bumper (with pre-LCI sensors) with an LCI bumper that has LCI sensors. That's all. No retrofit, not mechanical issues. Only question is whether the PDC will work fine if I just plug the new sensors into it.
According to a German forum it should work fine, in the worst case I would have to replace a relatively cheap cable that connects the sensors with the car. Will post how it worked if and when I have done it.

You'll probably have to replace the bumper PDC harness as the connections are different iirc. Worth checking to see if the PDC module under the spare wheel well is the same part number for pre / post LCI .
If you have black / carbon black pre-LCI sensors available after the change, I need a few !
