My Ride: december 2011 525d SE
Angry

Well what can I say,
Ive been a bmw devotee for years but over the last couple of months my 2005 525d has been throwing up failure messages like theres No Tomorrow.
simple little messages like rear parking light failure or tailgate closure failure or windscreen washer bottle empty or left reversing light failure or Tyre Failure
Its been having great fun especially as when I check all the messages out theres actually nothing bloody well wrong with any of them, they are all fine, but it keeps throwing these messages up on the screen.
Then 2 days ago around 10.30 pm I decide to use the rear window washer and nothing comes out even though i know the reservoir is full and the jet is clear. Ok so this wasnt very convenient travelling on the motorway at the time with my rear screen filthy I thought i can wait till i get home, ten minutes later the glass tailgate pops up, Not a great experience at 80mph, even before i get a chance to pull over on to the hard shoulder,up start the rear lights failure warnings, OH! Great
I stop the car go round to the back and theres no tail lights on
The tail gate wont stay shut
theres soapy water pouring out from below the left rear light,
So i use my brains , use My neck tye to hold the glass down, give the rear lights each side a good Thump..That sorted them out they started working again.
could not be assed to check where the water was coming from as it was -6 c so got back in the car and finished the journey home.
It Would be something really simple i say to myself as the car had only had a major Service 2 weeks before...
Yesterday morning straight into local bmw stealer who new exactly what the problem was. the washer hose had split behind the tailgate hinge and would need replacing and the water may have damaged the electronics up in behind the high level brake light.but they would have a quick check there and then to see and then book it in for repair...
Two Hours Later they tell me yes the hose had split and yes it had damaged the electronics behind the third brake light and Thank you very much that will be ?190 for confirming what they allready knew.
They would order the new hose but unfortunately that is also connected to the wiring loom running through the roof of the car so that part of the loom as well as the pipe and the electronic control unit would have to be replaced.
Around 4 hours work but maybe 5 to 6 if other items connected had been damaged by the water as well.
Well it doesnt take an idiot to work out that 6 hours labour is ?570 then all of the parts that have to be replaced at an estimated ?400-?500 depending on what they Find.
As We say in England I WAS NOT AMUSED. as I didnt ask for the 2 hour check over.which they wanted the money for straight away.
Well after a few choice but lets say to the point words i left the stealership still with the ?190 in my pocket but still with the tye holding down the glass.
My Missus being Scottish and very careful with our money was not a happy bunny.
Hoots No Way At all, She was doing a highland fling in the passenger seat.
Luckily we also have an Independant bmw specialist not thirty miles from us
Lets pay him a visit says Braveheart So Off I Go ....
WHAT A MISTAKE
we went past a Mercedes garage and she shouted FREEDOM and STOP the car.
She had spotted something.
twenty five minutes later I am the proud owner of ............................
.................................................. ............................
Wait for it ..............................................
.................................................. ............
a 2007 Mercedes CLS 320 CDI.
How the hell that happened I havnt got a clue, Jock McSporran had marched in demanded a test drive came back haggled for five minutes and faults and all part exchanged my beloved bmw.
Even with the faults and 89750 miles on the clock she got ?11000 for black beauty...( not bad as i only paid ?14400 two and a half years a go.)
So instead of paying around a ?1000 out, Mrs Kilt wearing, dead badger hanging round waist, knife in sock weilding, person who blows into some weird creature they call Bagpuss or something along those lines,
has gone and spent ?8500 to change the car.
And to cap it all shes Grinning like a cheshire bloody cat as she had got the price down from ?21995 to ?19995.
This is the first time in my entire life that i was totally Gobsmacked I had had no say at all in the matter and i wasnt going to argue the matter as i got one of those " I WANT IT I GOT IT LOOKS"
and if i want to sleep in the same bed as her tonight i had better button it or I would be Malkied!!!!!.

So There You Go Ladies and Gents i am no longer a bmw owner Ive been forced over to the dark side..But for how long who can tell..
I will keep you updated on how the divorce works out
Thanks for all your help and Comments
