I can understand the practicality of it, but IMHO it looks terrible. The M-Sport 5er is one of the best looking cars out there and covering it with a mask that looks like something inspired by that scene with the Gimp in Pulp Fiction is just wrong!

Have you considered a "clear bra". I believe that's a sheet of plastic(???) or some kind of see-through film that protects the paint. I.e. when you remove the clear bra, the paint is still fine underneath.

I can understand your frustration with car cleaning, because the previous 3 years I was travelling 1000km per week on the autobahn and my car looked a mess after those journeys. However I just got used to cleaning it more often, always carrying effective cleaning products in the boot and knowing which garages had a high-pressure hose to blast those bugs away. A bit more work, but it meant you could always enjoy that great M-Sport front end

hi xBMWx
i know that looks horrible but is only for 1 day. i will do 2000km from Switzerland to Portugal. it will be 19 hours with only one stop for fuel and i will do all in the night. imagine 19hours of insects and very hot weather.
i saw in BMW website the transparent cover vinyl but i don't know if i can use more than once.

thanks for the opinion

the transparent cover you stick on and leave it on forever. Sorry but that bra is aweful, I think you will be better off doing the drive and then buying a bottle of bug and tar remover and going to the carwash right after.

Doesn't the dealership sell those? Obviously, it's fugly, but it totally makes sense for the intended purpose. It's not like you're leaving it on there all the time (see: snow tires). I'd much rather hose the bugs off of this thing than scrub my car and deal with rock chips. 2000km is a long trip--God knows what could fly up. Good luck finding one.

A friend of mine had a Colgan on a 911. Here's one for a 5-series:

They have mirror covers, too.

If its for a "one-off" trip and otherwise your car is driven in conditions where it is not at risk to bugs and paint being chipped, then ok, I could see why you would want to put that mask on to keep your car looking mint. I was under the impression it was for regular use and something you kept on the car for longer periods of time. (If you do go this route, then just make sure you drive it at night so no-one sees you )
