Hi PoleApart.
Thanks for your advise.
However, I will be buying a 520d A and not a 530d with the 6 cylinder engine. If I was to choose between a second hand BMW 530d entry level and a Passat fully equipped, I would take the BMW without a second thought.

Are you getting it as a company car? I thought that private diesel cars were banned in Greece or has this changed recently?

Hi Gianton,
have you driven both cars? So?
Did you like the Passat? Did you like the drive? Take it!
Sorry, but if I would like both cars (Passat/E60) and I like driving both cars, why should I spend 15.000 ? more for the BMW.
I own the 525d and the Passat was on my list. But as we both, my wife and me, didn't like the interiour of the passat we did go for the BMW.
It's true, the BMW has rear wheel drive, maybe the more agile car etc. but at the end, it's a question of money and personal feeling. And there - if the Passat feels fine for you, Gianton, - I would go for the passat and spend the saved 15.000 bugs on a used Mini Cooper S for the agile driving

I've driven both cars and I am more satisfied with the BMW feel. I test drove a 520i A but it won't be such a difference to the 520d A. The interior and the whole car is in another class compared to the Passat.
I will more likely end up with a second hand Approved Car by BMW dealers in Germany, from 6 to 12 months old and similar extras to the Passat at appr. €40.000. Then I will have my car re-mapped to 198PS/410NM at "Wetterauer".
That'd be a wiser move after all this reading and comments from other forums as well.
Thank you all for your inputs.
Tony.

If you were happy with the 520i then you will love the 520d, all that extra torque really pushes it along far better than the petrol.
Good choice!

the 520D is quite a bit more rapid than a 520i!
