Hello
My alloys are 8j x18 " and the tyres are 245/40/18
I am looking to purchase another set of alloys which are also 8j x 18" and they also have tyres on them. The only difference is that the tyres are 220/40/18.Will these fit straight onto my car as it is only the tyre size that is different.
I need to know asap as the auction ends in a few hrs
Many thanks,
Paul

of course they will fit - because they are smaller
if you ask if this is the recommended size - obviously not (and far from it).
can you drive with them - yes you can.
can you pass MOT - if the tyre size gets closely looked at, I presume not.
will they look odd on the car - definitely

That's a strange tyre size - almost all tyres have a width figure ending in the digit 5. Are you sure that's the actual size?
The rolling diameter will be lower meaning a slightly higher engine speed at a given road speed.
No way of knowing what the load rating is - there may or may not be an issue. I can't see an issue at MOT time - tyre sizes are only checked on the same axle, not against anything else.
If they're not OEM BMW wheels you'll need to confirm that the PCD, offset and hub diameter are suitable for an E60/1.
