All windows open an car unlocked
 

I left the house this morning to go to work and I noticed that all 4 windows were open and the car unlocked. Has anyone else ever encountered this? Nothing was stolen as my dash cam, sunglasses and a few coins were still on show.

Is this a phenomenon or has this been reported before?

My car is a 2008 LCI model, with idrive. No mods.

It's possible that you inadvertently pressed against the key fob at some point. Pressing and holding the center button will open all the windows and sunroof.

Yeah.. or kids... I put them far away from reach, and yell at my wife when she leaves her purse on the floor where they can raid it. Once they opened all windows and the trunk.. it was raining... ugh

Could this be from the ventilation timer?

I've never had this happen before but I have had the car not let me out (door lock not actually letting me out).

Thanks for all your replies. I didn't realise this feature even existed! I'd be surprised if it was the button on the key though as I literally get out the car, open the door and hang the keys by the door. Habit. But then again all the symptoms would suggest that I did somehow.

I take it that there are no reported faults occurring before whereby the car 'thinks' it's picked up an open all signal??

I would be surprised if the car thought it was being commanded to open all the windows without the key actually transmitting that command.

For the US market, the key cannot put the windows back up and has to be done with the physical metal key locking the car. The closest experience I have had to yours is when I put the windows up (locking and arming the alarm) and then unlocking the car with the key.

The doors unlocked but the alarmed remained armed, sounding when I opened the door. My take was various alarm/body modules were not communicating. I suspect its just an inherent design flaw not an actual malfunction. I suppose it could be that a module in your car decided to open the windows.

Did you check the Timer Ventilation settings in iDrive?

I didn't no. I'm the only driver and I've never set it so don't think it will be this. It hasn't done it since so I'll have to assume I pressed the button without realising, even if I'm not sure how. At least I learn't that the feature existed so can consciously avoid it.

I often find my car locked in my locked garage when I go to go out. If you put your key fob in your pocket with other objects, change, cell phone, etc., it is rather easy to press against the fob's buttons inadvertently.
