All of the rear lights malfunction
I know this is common, but there are few threads on this particular problem for the e61.
I have an LCM fault that is consistent. Clear code and it comes right back. I found and did a quick repair on the lift gate wiring. This helped other areas of the car but not the lights. I have checked continuity on the fuses and removed the tail lights to clean the contacts. Right side tail lamp assembly is less than a year old and the left looks original.
You'll see from the pictures that I had some issues and most are dealt with, aside from the VTG. You'll be reading about that in another thread.
I did notice that an extra ground has been added to each side of the assemblies. The ground comes out of the factory plug and goes to the body. I did see on several other forums that the wire was attached to the metal on the actual bulb assembly, so I moved the ground to that will no change. Then moved the ground to the bulb assembly to the body. No change.
Anyone have any ideas where to go from here?

Solved! It was the LCM module under the footwell of the drivers side. Coded it with my Foxwell and all is good!

The LCM. In the Foxwell 530, there is an option under the "advanced options" for coding. It basically just tells the ECU that it's a new part and, from what I can tell, just matches the vin number to the new part. It DID NOT work for me as a plug and play module. I had to use the "Coding" feature. Honestly, it's the first time I have used it as the car and scanner are new to me. I have a Foxwell 520 that I have used for years on all of our "e" chassis cars but we have a few new "f" chassis cars and an i3 we added to the fleet! That said, the 520 didn't work with the e chassis so I got the 530. TMI, I know. Sorry.

Actually, I have this to contend with to get the last error out of the system. Right side license plate lamp malfunction. (roll eyes)
