Whatever happened to the little clips that used to hold airfilter housings together? 3 minutes with a screwdriver used to see a filter changed, not so BMW............can they make it any harder?
Job now done and hand on heart I have never seen such a filthy filter, the car must be sucking in more air than a 747. Bugs, a dragonfly, cigarette butts, leaves (enough for a couple of trees) and a bottle top were all in the filter housing, there wasn't any room for air, how the car has been breathing I have no idea! I would hazard a guess and say that it is possible in the car's 4 years and 55,000 miles the filter may never have been done despite a full BMW history.
Oil change is next. I would be interested in what seems to the oil of choice for the old hands out there. the car is a pre LCI 525d. Also any oil changing quirks, on the strength of the airfilter change I will be putting aside a weekend!
