The idea of a more aggressive square set up may sound funny but I wanted to give it a shot. I've read nearly every fitment thread and am dumbfounded by the possibilities. I decided to try to take a more practical approach to new tires which obviously deserve new rims!
I am looking at Apex EC-7 rims in 18x9 all around. The ETs offered are 31 or 42. Here's where I get tripped up…I think I can go with the 31 in front and 42 in back with no problems. However, I would have to remount tires to rotate and lose a big practical part of the proposed set up. So do I go with ET 31 all around which bumps out the rim about 1" (24.7mm) according to "will they fit" calculator. Or do I go with ET 42 (essentially stock from what I've read) and achieve more aggressive fitment with spacers? What might a spacer set up look like.
I'm contemplating a tire size of 255/40/18.
Any feedback from all of you more experienced is very appreciated!

Looking at this further, I think the 18x9 et 31 should fit all around. It only brings the rim .7mm closer to strut and with about an inch of "push" outward. Diameter is +/- 5mm difference from my current stock 8 x 17 (225/50).
I'd appreciate any feedback before making a decision. I have also reached out to the wheel manufacturer to get their thoughts.
Thanks!

My rims are 19X8.5 ET 33 and it has plenty to go if it was ET31 I'm sure by looking at it.
The manual actually says not to rotate tires ever.. which as long as they wear relatively evenly I don't care for the extra 1/32 difference over time (my summers I replaced where 5/32 and 6/32 )
I run 12mm spacers in the rear.. I think I have more room for that. The fronts are pretty flush so I didn't bother. The rears I could most certainly go with larger spacers. I do have a Sedan, but I don't think there's much of a difference at all.

I was running 20's in the rear and nothing in the front, and the tuck from the fender to the tire was about even front to rear. Look up the thread I started for the measurements.
