Accessing backside of Hydrobearing fastener
I am having a hell of a time accessing the backside of the Hydrobearing nut (#10 in the picture). The front side is an 18mm bolt head and the back is an 18mm nut. I can feel the nut on the backside turning but can't get a wrench or socket back there to keep it from rotating.
Sometimes BMW does some very weird things. There is such a small amount of room to access this nut. Does anyone have any tricks for this? https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/5series...b97e0bc14e.png |
I just finished doing these on mine. You have to remove the plastic trim - lower half of inner fender with the holes for the steering rack tie rods. A box end wrench will fit on the nut with about 10 or 15 degrees of motion - and you can't fit a socket wrench in that space. I torqued that fastener on the bolt end to get the initial torque setting, and then I did the additional 90 degree turn on the nut - a few degrees at a time with the box end wrench. Good luck.

Yeah, should be very simple. A tight space, but nothing crazy.

I finally figured this out. The problem was my hands were just to big. Had my buddy come over and he did it within a few minutes.
