yep 326k lots I know,,solid drive but I get bright blue smoke on over run sometimes or after periods in traffic,,.,.also I can just notice a slight hesitation in power,.the rev counter/tach shows the revs are moving between 50 & 100 rpm throughout the rev range,.,"ie" a slight fleeling like your driving in windy conditions.,.,.anyway I will be changing the crank case breather along with a OEM fuel filter,plus a basic service.,.i will also check any play in the turbo shaft,.,.anyway I hope I can get to the bottom of this & not end up doing a engine rebuild,,rings,valves ect,.could an air leak cause the hesitation????,.so fingers crossed,.any idears any body??

My 530xd have done 293k. Got the hesitation in "D" mode. Juddering revs under 1500 rpm. Seem to appear when the engine/transmission is warming up. This problem have been mention before on many forums. What I can understand, high km's is not the main problem for this. Seems to hit cars with low milage too. Have searched the net for for fixes, but can't find a final conclousion for this problem. In this case, it have been all from: broken turbos, jammed egr, air leaks, low oil on transmission, broken lock-up clutch, air filters, crankcase breather, clogged dpf, swirl flaps, learning mode transmission, and so on.

I really don't know where to start! Have changed the crankcase breather and filters without any luck so far.

So, anybody? (Sorry for bad english)

i changed the crankcase breather & the smoke has gone,.well so far,.! im sure theres a small air leak somewhere as theres a slight whistle when driving,,the tone of it changes depending on the amount of input from the throttle pedal,.,.,.its so hardly noticeable im not sure im going to bother,,.the smoke was the main issue,.,.im going to re flush the oil again after 2000 miles then do another oil / filter change,.,.then 2000 miles later I will re new the breather again,.,.,.i hope to keep the high miller on the road for some years yet,.,.M sport bumpers are next now ive fitted my M5 19" wheels,.,.

nope I spoke to soon,,after being stuck in traffic for 20mins the fxxxxg thing is smoking like a chimney,.,.,.

another day later.,some more miles added to the ol girls tach,,,motorway & town,,stuck in roadworks,,.no smoke .,.,so maybe yesterday it was having a clearout after the new breaher was fitted,.?

you have a particle filter (DPF)?
it might be regenerating, hence the smoke.
it might also be blocked, or on its way to be blocked, if your thermostats are no working.
checked the engine temps in the hidden menu?
the DPF is an important topic you should devote some time to, as it can be the cause for many existing and additional problems.
additional topics are turbo, MAF, EGR valve, swirl flaps.... read a bit on all this, tons of info here on this forum, it will pay out!
