2010 535xi E61 Tailgate Wiring Problems
Hi ALL,
Having the issue with the broken hinge wires, right side so far, no key FOBs, no radio antenna etc.
I pulled it all apart because the battery dies after 4hrs, I am disconnecting the battery every time I park.
I had a look and YES the wires have all been repaired and botched back together and now broken again.
Is there a harness I can buy that will replace this stuff through the hinge to the antenna and plug inside the headliner?
I am on realoem.com and found the wires that live in the rear hatch after the hinge but, the wires in the hinge are not so clear?
Anyone ever order and replace the part rather than patching soldering crimping a crap repair again?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers

Clive - Sencom in Germany makes a repair harness with silicone jacketed wires that are much more flexible in cold weather and not subject to the insulation cracking. I did this repair on mine a few years ago - here's a link to a writeup I did on it: https://www.fightchaos.com/2016/01/b...te-wiring.html It takes some time, but from what I've seen and read, this is the best way to deal with the problem permanently. Do both sides, all wires while you're at it - it's only a matter of time before you lose wires on both sides.

Here are the PICs again, I posted on the other thread, just in case...
Considering how the hinge area is rusted and corroded, the antenna in the plastic box seems quite intact.

I just got my kit from Sencom yesterday, took almost 2 months to arrive from Germany. They are very very flexible wires which I’m happy to see.
I bought it directly from them here:

I ordered the SenCom repair kit, there are also others on ecstuning.com GenuineBMW brand - way more money - look like plug and play?
I uncovered the last bits of wiring to get set for a real repair and found 5 wires were broken at crimps - no strain relief
Most of the wires had broken and were crimped or soldered back together.
I'm hoping the repair kit will have plenty of extra so, I can leave a loop in roof area and eliminate this chewing itself up.
Nice car, stupid wiring!

The Sencom kits have a good amount of extra length - at least 8" - I didn't leave too much slack around the hinges - I didn't want the wires moving around too much around the hinge mechanisms. As for the OEM kits - I've never seen one but if they have the same thermoplastic insulation it's only a matter of time before they would fail also. You're much better off with the Sencom kits. Good luck with the repair.

After watching the "How to Video" I'm convinced this is the best way to go - I can't lose because my wiring has been repaired and is now beyond recognition.
It is pretty cheap, has some slack built in, eliminates the nasty wire trays and goes pretty quickly.
I'm planning on leaving the slack over towards the speaker hole, to allow a bit of motion without any hard edges.
So far I am on the right side only, will see if that solves all the problems or not.
I may need to do the left side as well?
Have a look if you are thinking about it:
