o at 500 miles out of warrenty my tailgate window on my 535XI T (wagon) is automatically self opening when I start the car. Its on an electric relay. It interacts with the rear cargo cover which is electronic. If the cover is closed or open same issue. Today it now randomly electronically releases the window after i hear the rear cargo cover self activate to close (while open) all this when i am driving on the highway. Its done this multiple times over a few days. Any ideas before the wallet biopsy at the dealer.

Search. Been mentioned lots of times here, as alas, it's a common problem on these cars. Wiring has been frayed probably. Dealer might suggest replacing whole thing, but others at indy shops have had them repaired for much cheaper.

This problem is covered a few times on this forum. As Lotus99 says, do a search.

I had same problem, turned out to be water ingress in the glass tailgate button release switch. I changed it and the problem went away. Took the cover off the old switch annd sure enough, contacts had moisture and corrosion on them. I listed the part number and procedure in another posting.

Thanks guys. That was my suspicion. I will take it apart tomorrow.
