My Ride: 2009 535xi Platinum Gray. M sport, Premium, Cold, Logic, PDC, Sirius, and Bamboo.
I'm having trouble understanding the value of staggered versus non-staggered set-ups.
Clearly with RWD a staggered set-up is obviously advantageous. On the AWD I'm not so sure ...40/60, does it matter? The Audi RS6 was 50/50, non-staggered (255/40-18 X4). Yes, super fat rear tires look cool and are very "BMW". And yes BMW sells X3's, X5's and even E60xi's with a staggered set-up, but is it just for looks?
I've got a 535xi on order with the M-sport package, which is supposedly being delivered with a non-staggered set-up ( Style 135, 245/40-18 at all four corners). Meanwhile the same car with the ZSP sport package comes staggered (Style 124, 245/275 ) . What gives ? If it really mattered, why would they sell some staggered and some (including M-sport) not?
Is there a real advantage to a staggered set-up with the xi's?

My Ride: White 2004 545i sport
a staggered setup will create more oversteer... AWD audi's already have alot of oversteer to begin with, so staggered setups make it even worse... I'm not too sure on the XI BMW though.

I've been through this communication on the forum and the feedback I received was to go non-staggered in the Winter, and staggered in the Summer. I would imagine you have a 535xi due to inclement weather conditions. I'm using my stock 17" 124 style wheel with the same size tire, 8.5" in the Winter. With respect to Summer... I ordered 19" staggered, VMR V710's, 9.5" rear, 8.5" front. Good luck.
