Default Sunroof Vent Position Rattle Solved

Some of you may have noticed the metallic rattle sound when the sunroof is in the vent position (just pressing the button up and not openning). Some of you solved it but I'm posting anyway.

Basically, the sound is coming from the metal deflector banging against the sunroof frame. If you have the rattle and vent the sunroof, you can just pull on the deflector with your fingertip just a little so that it won't vibrate and hit the frame anymore. Mine was literally only 1mm.

To fix, in my case, I used some thick wooden dowels right at the bottom of where the deflector hinges. This acts as a brace to force and bend the deflector a bit.

The picture attached shows the red arrows pointing to the deflector and the yellow line is around the axis of where to bend the deflector. I used pliers to bend the deflector and wrapped the contact parts with a towel to minimize scratching the deflector. Bend until the deflector no longer touches the frame. You may need to drive the car to test if your car doesn't rattle anymore.

Now I can roll on bumpy roads with the sunroof vented, rattle free, in peace!

Hope this helps.

Nice job. This problem really pissed me off, because I ride with my sunroof tilted most of the time. The way I fixed this problem was by placing small strips of adhesive backed velcro (the soft side, not the hooks side) on the top edge of the wind deflector. You have to put them in a couple places along the edge to stop the rattling, but it works like a charm.

Thanks! Yeah, I actually did this a few weeks ago. I'm now driving with the sunroof tilted all the time now where as before I didn't because the noise bugged me as well.

Just make sure you properly brace the deflector hinge so as not to put too much pressure on it when you try to bend it.

Use a piece of paper from the manual so it would at least be an OEM fix.
