Today, I encoded a car!
What we have:
Standard shifter, shift box, sport button and paddles on the steering wheel.
See below.
It was necessary to change the firmware shiftboks as he did not see sport button.
I did not feel the difference, pressed or not pressed the button sport.
The Master says to change the firmware transmission ....... But it could be dangerous .... Transmission may die ...
What are your comments?

Hallo
With this mod I do not feel difference when pressed sport button.
Also in DS mode, does not change M1-M6 in the S1-S6
In what may be a problem?
Thanks

My Ride: 2008 550i M-sport, retrofitted heated M-sport steering wheel with paddles, Sport-auto transmission
When I retrofitted through the dealer, all of the car's modules were updated to the current versions -- so if there were any transmission "firmware" updates required they were applied. There's always a risk when programming that a module may die, but somehow it only seems to happen when your car is being programmed by the dealer
Where you are today, do your paddles work for shifting gears? If so, that's a good sign. It also looks like you get the "sport" display on the dash with the button pressed, so that's also a good sign.
I'm going to go with memory here (and confirm on the drive home tonight): For the S1-5 vs. M1-6 on the display, the S1-5 appear with the gearshift in DS mode without using the paddles (ie. still in 'auto' mode) - can't remember if sport button needs to be pressed. Once you use the paddles in DS mode, with or without the sport button pressed, it changes to M1-6.
If you're not detecting any change when pressing the sport button, something is not working -- in regular "D" mode the button should significantly change throttle response and shift points, like you put the car in DS mode plus some. You should also notice that when you are in manual mode the car rev matches on downshifts - is it doing that?
Great work on getting this to work! Not sure how many people would have the skills to do the changes to the circuit board, but if you get it to work then the marketability of my old shifter goes up considerably!

You should get the rev matching in manual mode downshifts whether the sport button is on or not. If you don't have that you still have something to work out.

At first when I plugged my old shiftboks, nothing worked.
Then I updated software of shiftboks, sport button is working, the kombi will show "sport".
Paddles are working.
In the DS mode, M1-M6 are not changed in S1-S6.
I just do not have a difference with the pressed and not pressed sport button ....
