Hi folks,

I ordered OEM 166 wheels for my 2006 550 sport. I want to place a 285 tire on them rather than the 275. The 275 tire seems to be a stretch to fit on a 9.5" wheel width (worry about increased chance of curb rash etc). My question is two part:

1. will the 285/30/19 tire fit within the stock wheelwell?
2. is there so much room that I will want to consider spacers? I have some H&R 12mm handy...

I parked beside an M5 the other day and 'felt it up' under the reat fender. from the outside it has the same flair as a standard e60. from the inside though the fender is lipped very tight (similar to the front fender).

Im trying to figure out perfect fit...and wondering if I will want to use spacers and perhaps do a little bit of shaping behind the fender.

Any experience would be appreciated!

thanks!

1. Yes. 285/30/19 for the rear is fine. A lot of people are using this configuration.
2. Maybe. Brian1225 has exactly what you are describing. He's running 285/30/19s with 12mm spacers on 167s in the rear. I think he's rubbing a bit. I offered to swap my 10mm for his 12mm, but he likes the aesethics too much to swap.

I willing to swap my 10mm for your 12mm...

Forgot to add he's also lowered on H&R Springs. Not sure if it's Sport or Racing.

Let me find out for sure. I'll try to get in touch with brian1225 this weekend. I want to make sure exactly what is causing his tires to rub.

Spoke with Brian this last Saturday. He said that with 10mm spacers and 285 tires you won't get any rubbing. Because he went with 12mm and 285s, he had to roll his rear fenders. So, let's try to set something up for an exchange if you want.

Matt,
I've spoke with EuroCarFan. He's from the San Jose area and is willing to pick up your spacers and bring them to the Central Cali Meet we are having in San Louis Obispo (SLO) on the 18th. I would then give him my spacers to give to you when he heads back to San Jose. I'll PM you with EuroCarFan's cell phone number so the two of you can meet up.

You know an easy way to do this is for you to just go to SLO. We can then meet and exchange the spacers and if we have any problems installing the spacers there will be 20 other BMW peeps to lend a helping hand.

Hey Matt, I live near the Capitol Expwy Auto Mall area but work off N 1st St near the airport. Call me and we can decide the best place to meet.
