My Ride: 2005 e60 530d Front/rear pdc, Bluetooth intergration for telephone
Thumbs up

I am currently considering upgrading the STANDARD sound system in my 2005 e60 530d.

I want to install the following

2 x MB Quart RVF 164 (Under front seats)
2 x MB Quart RVF213 (Front Doors)
2 x MB Quart RUA213 (Rear Deck)
2 x Rockford Fosgate P1S410 Subwoofers
1 x Rockford Fosgate P450.4 amplifier (Front and Rear Speakers)
1 x Rockford Fosgate P300.1 monoblock (Subwoofers)
1 x Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.1 Sound Processor
2 x Rockford Fosgate 1 Farad capacitors

Font and rear speakers will be installed in the orginal factory locations. Please comment if this is going to work and offer suggestions of alternatives.

First off glad to see someone else wanting to upgrade the e60 sound. Do you have logic 7 or no? if no great. Why replace the rear are you doing 5.1? If no 5.1 forget the rears. Watch the mounting depth on all speakers especially under the seat not much room there. Lose the cap it is worhtless. You are off to a good start.

I am glad too, as the standard set up on a UK model is not so good.

What I did was:

Installed a DLS CA41 power amp in the boot and fed forward to the front doors where a got Jenhert door panels that fit into the door pockets. I then had DLS reference 3 speaker systems installed in the doors with crossovers, both in the existing tweeter and mid range holes and the mid bass woofer in the door pocket panels. The Jenhert panels helped put extra speakers in the doors possibly replacing whatever sound comes up from under the seats.

The back shelf I replaced with crisp Diamond D342i 4" and I left the exsting subs under the seats powering straight of the head unit.

With a bit of amp balancing you can get this set up to work very nicely and crisp with just enough bass not to make you heard from 3 blocks away.

I have looked at the options of increasing the bass a little with replacing the subs under the seats but I am not convinced that there will be more bass than that from the doors. You could look at putting new enclosures under the seats to fit beefier subs in there but I didnt want to go into that.

Looking through here it seems that in order to get a boot mounted sub to do anything it needs to be big and there is steelwork cutting / driving around with the centre arm rest down, as the boot is well insulated.

The head unit has stayed as it is as I wanted to keep the IDrive controls.

No real cutting needed other than removing the door pocket lips.

Thnx for the response, a couple of questions

1. Did you do the install yourself.
2. If you did, did you use the existing speaker cables in the vehicle.
3. How did you get the signals from the head unit to your amp.

Regards

Car is installed with STANDARD sound, by the sound of it no amps!!!, starts to distort at about halfway on the volume control.

I am hoping to get 5.1 sound by using the Rockford 3sixty.1, hence the rear speaker upgrade.

no I had it done for me.

I had a new cable taken from the head to the amp and then we went back to the front and connected to the exsting door speakers behind the head unit. The cross over for the door speakers is in the doors.

Do you plan on customizing the stock speaker cutouts? As i see you are getting 5.25" speakers.. the stock cutouts are for 4" speakers.. I actually just bought a set of

1 x MB Quart RUF 210 (Rear Deck Lid Speakers)
1 x MB Quart DKG 110 (Coaxial Front Door Mid Section Speakers)
1 x Diamond Audio D342i (Coaxial Rear Door Mid Section Speakers)
2 x Diamond Audio D308 (8" Subwoofers Under Front Seats)
1 x Diamond Audio D3400.2 (Front Channel's Amplifier)
1 x Diamond Audio D3400.4 (Rear and Center Channel's Amplifier)
1 x Soundstream Parametric EQ w/ crossover (Sound Processor EQ/Crossover)
1 x Jensen 9512 7" Touchscreen Flip Out 240w
1 x 12.1 Flip Down Monitor

I already currently have:

2 x Diamond Audio D312 (12" Trunk Subwoofers)
2 x Diamond Audio D3600.1 (Trunk Subwoofer Amplifiers)
1 x Diamond Audio D362.5 (Trunk Lid Speakers)
1 x Pioneer 960.2 (Trunk Lid Speakers / Soon to be Front Seat Subwoofer Amplifier)
1 x Norcet 32" Plasma TV ( idk LOL)

I plan on buying:

1 x Diamond Audio D312 (12" Trunk Subwoofer)
1 x Diamond Audio D3600.1 (Trunk Subwoofer Amplifier)
1 x Soundstream SC-20CA 20 Farad Capacitor
1 x Yellow Top Battery

I already have a custom built system. However the trunk was the extent of it. Now its moving to inside the car. I'm also going to be redoing the current setup I have however, the main idea will remain but as stated above I'm looking to add a 3rd Sub.

I would like to upgrade the subs under the seats but am not sure how much difference they would make.

As for a sub in the boot, I was told it is so well insulated that more sound will be heard outside of the car than in it.

I dont want to cut holes behind the centre arm rest and to drive around with it down.

I looked at customising the holes under the rear parcel shelf but there is a bout 50 mm between the steel shelf and the inside of the car, which would render any larger speaker useless.

I am glad, I found this thread! I am extremely unhappy with L7 sound. Bavarian Soundwerks upgrades are still not ready, so I am looking at other options. First: what fits in front doors?

I see your sig says new head unit - where did you put it?
