i like to hear opinions on installing a short shitfter to my e60. which make should i go for and are more reliable?
does anyone here use the short shifter kit and do you like it?
to my understanding this is a rather simple procedure and could be done in many bmw performance shops, but wil this void/affect the warranty? ideas appreciated.

Just talked to UUC, the shifter for the 545 should be available in two weeks.

Not sure about the warranty, but while your at it might as well get the CDV delete and change the manual transmission fluid to redline or something similar.

Definitely go for the CDV delete. I love my 545i/6sp even more now that the CDV has been made less restrictive.

The short shifter install will involve removing several of the underbody panels, and while you're under there, you may as well replace the CDV with a modified one.

I had the UUC installed in my Audi, and it didn't affect the warantee, so I assume it won't affect the BMW. I'll definitely ask though.

Tell me about this CDV. This is the clutch delay valve? What does it do? Why is it there? And what is the effect of removing it? Anyone done it under warantee??

check out Dave Zeckhausen Racing for a very good explanation of what the CDV does and why it sucks for seasoned manual tranny drivers.

The short version is that the CDV causes the clutch to slip a little on every shift in an attempt to smooth out the shift. This prematurely wears the clutch out and causes a good stick driver to look stupid, because we already know how to modulate the clutch to get a smooth shift.

You won't be able to have the CDV deleted or replaced with a modified one under warranty, but if you do replace with a modified one, your chances of having a tranny related warranty claim denied go down tremendously, since the techs will see a CDV in place.

Thanks for the info - I'll probably leave it in to stay under warantee.
