I'm at 15k miles on my '06 550i with sport suspension. I have Bridgestone Pole Position RE050A Max Summer Tires on 128 wheels -- 245/35/19 up front and 275/30/19 in back. The tires are great, but I am willing to listen to any other suggestions if you have any thoughts. I like the current tires, but they're a little noisy. Thanks.

I'ts been a disaster replacing my rear continentals with the goodyear asymmetric F1's. Car was stable and ran true before the change, now it's wandering, tramlining and the driving experience is total c**p.... I just want it back to the way it was

Im contemplating buying new tyres again and going back to the conti's.

PS2

Pricey, but worth it. Best price I found is at COSTCO. Their price on line is full out the door price that includes mounting, road hazzard insurance, taxes, etc. They also fill with nitrogen.

I replaced my original conti's with Eagles F1's.......Car handles great. I did a lot of research on tires and the Eagles won out.

Just recieved the following reply from BMW UK

"We can advise that BMW recommend the following tyres for your particular vehicle(530i Mpsort) and wheel(172 type):

Front wheel - Continental Sport Contact 2 (245/35 R19)

Dunlop SP Sport 01

Rear wheel - Continental Sport Contact 2 (275/30 R19)"

Maybe slightly off topic.

Nobody ever accused me of being conventional, nor of being a tire design guru, but:

Why do we seem to buy tires in sets?

On a common rear wheel drive vehicle the functions of the front and rear tires are obviously different ? front to steer and rear to transmit drive power. And I suspect the braking function of the front and rear may differ ? when you brake the front wheel load increases relative to the rear.

So why wouldn't the tire people offer different tread designs for the front and rear? Seems the optimum tread design to steer would not be the same as to transmit power to drive.

Any thoughts on this?

BTW, I am not referring to tire width, ala some E60s.

Hmmm, makes sense. Motorcycles have different tire thread patterns for front and rear.
