I was messing around with some numbers because once i'm about to chipped my 535d, i wanted to know what is the max speed possible with the Cx and 350hp. So, i found HERE that my car has a drag coefficient of 0.3, frontal area of 2.26m2 and Cx of 0,68. I also found a power/speed equation HERE and start to play with the numbers. Don't forget that the frontal area is in m2 and in the equation you must convert to ft2. Same with Km/h to MPH.

The point is that for stock power the car is capable of the max of 250 km/h and to make 280 Km/h is needed 380hp. <_< Are my numbers right?

Surely not : I think that my chipped 545i could reach 280 kmh : I will have to try ..

The previous M5, the E39, does something like 29x ..

Or more!

There are claims of 280 Km/h with just a removed limiter on the 545i, not even chipped.

Well said, Andre, Hobi's car is Vmaxed out, and when he came here doing my trunk switch over the channel he did 280km/h V8 aka yours I love that sound. My car was dynoed and killed at 290km/h but only on rolling road so it might be able to do 270Km/h + for sure, when next spring wheather is nice and I got the new air 360 aka Hankook S1 w Edit race I will let you know with a possible vid, what the "old" 3 L oilburner can do

Forget speedo numbers. I'm talking about real speed. BTW i searched several chiptuning companies and the most claim 25-30hp increased and the max of 270-275km/h for the 545i, but i doubt that this is real speed numbers. You sell easier by the speedo numbers than real numbers.

Hobi has a DataLogger and his numbers are via GPS, not speedo, AFAIK.

I have reached 275km/h GPS timed about 3 times this summer in Germany, when I had to back off. Not sure if it would have gone much faster though. Accurate GPS timed speed.

My 535d map runs on about 320hp and 640Nm

In short - no; or rather, I have no reason to doubt A and Cd; Cx is just the product of the two. But your calculation coming up with 380 bhp has something wrong. I have no idea why Brian Beckman at Stuttgart West is trying to confuse things by doing all the calcs in Imperial/US units. And he admits to doing so:

Now (this gets confusing, and it wouldn't be if we were using the metric system) [...] The metric system makes all such calculations vastly simpler.

If you look at this thread, you will find a simple formula (and post 27 has its derivation, should you be so minded). Just feed in your numbers in metric (SI) units, i.e. Kg, m, s, and you'll get your answer. (Answer: 276 bhp for 280 km/h)

Please take into account that transmission losses, rolling resistance etc. are ignored in the formula, so the power you come up with is the effective power at the wheels. Given that typically those losses are ~20% of engine power, you end up with 345 bhp at the crankshaft.

Funnily enough, the frontal area that I approximated on that thread as w x h of the car is almost exactly 20% higher than the real value (there is a space between the car and the ground, and the car is not rectangular in section), so by using the w x h approximation for frontal section (2.71 m^2) you end up with the same result...

Do you remember what was the rpm at 275km/h?
