I know this topic has been addressed a hundred times. This forum has been great source of info for me. From buying the car to getting wheels there has been abundant info. Everyone has been great on the site.

I'm looking for a radar detector. I know so many of you have recommended the Valentine 1 I aslo see a few guys with the passports. I was pretty much set on getting the valentine, but now am considering going with a remote system. Two such components I'm considering are the Escort sr7 w/laser shifters and the Bel rx75.

Does anybody out there have any first hand experience with either model? Is it worth the extra$$$

The more expensive radar detectors area always worth it. This is just the cost of one ticket. I have the most expensive cordless model on the market (the one in Sharper Image). I have no such desire to be only 1/2 protected against a ticket. The detector lasts for years.

After you buy a second rate radar detector and realize 6 months later that you could have gotten the better one for $100 more, you will not be happy stuck with the lesser useful one.

Remember when you were considering your first 5-series, and maybe you were at first considered the 3-series or another lesser car? Today, you would never even think back to what life would have been with the 3-series (or lesser than the 5-series).

Treat yourself here.

I live in New Jersey where lots of small towns raise revenue by nailing speeders. I chose to go with the K-40 radar detector and also the K-40 laser diffuser.
Unlike the two you are considering the K-40 is completely built in exept for a small red bulb under the tach. The 2 you are considering still have a small box that attaches somewhere.
I find, despit the reviews that it is very effective, often picking up signals a mile away. Total cost was $900 but removal and re-installation in my next car will be $200.00.
