I purchased a radar detector that a friend recommended to me. It is the Sensoro Steel Eye. I purchased it for $65 on Amazon. Sadly I am EXTREMELY disappointed with it. The past 2 days there were cops standing outside their vehicles and pointing a gun to on coming traffic. Not once did my detector even warn me. I see that there are a lot of radar detector that are out and I do want one that will work. Beltronics just released one called the P300. It replaces the RX 65, has a 3db boost in the antenna so it give you a significantly more range. I am also looking at the Valentine V1. Now I know that is an older model and I know it is a good detector. I am in need of help though. Any other detectors that you recommend? I would like to hear experiences to help me make a decision about this. Your help will be appreciated.

If you're looking at the valentine, at least read up on the Escort Passport 9500ci.

Believe it or not, I have a Whistler that I've had since the 90's. It detects everything except laser radar, which was not prevalent back then. In Connecticut, PDs haven't a lot of the latest technology, so I've been lucky so far, but I know the day will come when I will have to upgrade.

I see you are from California, so you should probably invest in the best detector you can afford. The V1 seems to be popular on this board. Good luck!

V1. The top of the line Passports have good feedback, but I can only recommend what I have experience with.

I am not planning on spending 1500 on a detector. That is nuts. My budget is 300

I've had the different models of the passport 8500 and 9500 and have been happy with their performance. The V1 is also a great detector that I was also considering since it tells you where you are being hit from (hwy on ramps are popular with the CHP here). The only thing is lidar is very accurate and quick to lock onto your speed. In the end the detectors will not guarantee you won't get a ticket but just help you from getting one. You have to use common sense along with using a detector to make it work the best. Just my 2 cents.

If I am not mistaken, if they were standing outside the vehicle and pointing a gun they were probably using laser. That unit you bought is supposed to detect laser but I would check the settings to make sure laser detection is turned on. I have an older Escort Passport SR7 where I can turn on or off all of the different bands to include turning laser to off, detection only, or laser shifter. There may also be a new type of radar/laser that is out there being tested as that did happen to me but just one time. One other thing to consider is that although they were standing there aiming, they had not "pulled the trigger"?

The thing is the cops (3) would have tried to tag someone before me. This was at 430 on the free way 2 times and once at 11 am. There were hundreds of cars traveling on the road for the cops not to pull the trigger at all. Just unhappy. I am sure if I spend some money on one it will work better, just unsure which.
